Julia, you nailed it, as always. Yes,

This is why I still mask. Still isolate. Still live in fear from others. This is why I won't watch the Convention. It's too painful. Yes,

I will vote for Harris. But as Biden once famously said, nothing fundamentally will change. We will be living with the virus forever. Thankfully, as a retired homeowner, I don't have to leave my home if I don't want to. Thankfully, I don't let anyone, including family members, into my home. Because no one is masking anymore. But it's a rotten way to live, thanks to Trump, Biden and the billionaire class whom they serve. Well,

It's too depressing watching the Convention. It also just reminds me that,

These so-called leaders and elected officials have access to the best healthcare and covered by the government. The rest of us, if we're lucky, have insurance companies, which in turn, torture and deny us care, and in the end, bankrupt and turn us homeless and ready to die.

Pathetic.

Wow - this is a great essay, makes me feel like cheering!

Both sides in the current tribal atmosphere are focused on one and only one thing - defeating the evil enemy and don't care about anything else. I guess catastrophizing a ballot box defeat while ignoring a real infectious disease problem is what the world is now.

Wish I could see a way back to sanity.

Thanks for writing.

Trump in 2020 once said of the Coronavirus: 'if we stop testing right now, we'd have very few cases'. It was Joe Biden that implemented it though.

Thank you for keeping things real. We are all really on planet 1, and there is no where else to go. It's heartening to hear voices of sanity like yours.

Thank you. I need you Julia.

My spouse ruined my life by going to pickle ball in Dec 22. I begged him not to go. Knew he would get sick. And slept in our shared bed like an idiot. I lost my fully remote job that I liked. I had sepsis last summer. I can’t remember. I take a bunch of meds that enable me to get off the couch. They cost $500 a month- with insurance. I check the Covid wastewater to determine what activities I can do. I skipped a play on Sunday. I knew that I would end up sitting to one of the people with Covid, which they say is just a cold.

Social Security Disability is denying claims for Long Covid. Cause it doesn’t disable people.

The covid death count is significantly understated.

The deaths don’t include the people who died from saracov2’s perniciousness.

Cardiovascular events- too many to list

Strokes

Cancer

Kidney, Liver, and other organ failures

Sepsis and Toxic Shock Syndrome- which jails and prisons call a “natural death”

Diabetes

Suicides and murders - due to lack of serotonin

I think at least 2,000,000 have died from Covid in the USA. Probably more.

Minnesota has had a worker shortage since 2016. Walz has done nothing about it.

I am not a fan of Walz. He cared more about his reelection than the people of Minnesota. In the winter of 22-23 (when I got Covid) Doctors and healthcare organizations ran full page ads begging the govt to do something about Covid. Walz was silent.

Children died from Covid. He didn’t care.

Climate change, gun control, sarscov2…all get the same treatment by the great plutocracy.

This is America.

Thank you for speaking the truth. I am seriously considering changing my party affiliation to Independent because the Dems have become wholly unrecognizable to me. Their comfort with and self-congratulatory behavior around the pandemic and the genocide are making me feel perplexed and like I don’t belong anymore.

Your words are the exact reason I changed my party affiliation to Independent. They've gone so far right that I feel shunned by what used to be my own party. Democrats seem to have time blindness, as though all these covid and genocide deaths didn't happen under their own administration.

Such a powerful round-up of falsehoods and lies being spread by the neo-libs who offer many platitudes but, sadly, not the direct confrontation with reality that is really required.

oof, this is so powerful, especially in separating the rhetoric from the actual reality. It really is all about feelings rather than facts for the Democrats, isn't it? And only feelings that are convenient and profitable for the elite in power, while outside the convention, people who understand what's actually going on - genocide denial on multiple fronts - get arrested for protesting. Thank you again for writing about this with such clarity!
