Beautifully written, Julia. Your voice truly deserves to amplified. It's hard to articulate the contrast between an everyday person writing with such clarity and conviction about public health—and the fact that 'Dr. Oz,' a self-proclaimed entertainer, now oversees Medicare and Medicaid for half the country.
This is a great analysis of these conspiracy nuts. These people are like little children who never understood the idea that not everything "natural" is good, and not everything "unnatural" is bad. Dog poop is natural. Snake bites are natural. Are those good for us? The simplistic thinking is so pathetic, and it really points to the lack of proper scientific literacy in the US and many other countries clearly.
Excellent and sad discussion. But, alas, the problem of fabulous, individual powerful opinions runs deeper and wider than you understand. Check out FANTASYLAND by Kurt Anderson (from 2017) to see how our dear USA is exceptional in loving and promoting consensual hokum (often called religion).
THANK YOU. Also, although somewhat anecdotal, have you noticed a high percentage of those with long COVID were super active/athletes before getting sick? I see it in LC articles, in the social media groups, etc. and that was certainly me before getting knocked down at age 44 and for the last five years. So, not only will this ableist, “but I’m so healthy” mindset not shield anyone from long COVID, athleticism may wind up being some sort of risk factor.
Brilliant as ever
It is also "Eugenics for thee, but not for me", as RFK stated in his confirmation hearing: "All my children are vaccinated."

All true, Julia. Best of health to you.
